About Me
About Me
Hello, I’m Lorraine, founder of The Calm Lantern Counselling. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor with over 25 years of experience supporting children, young people, adults, and families. Many people come to counselling feeling overwhelmed, unheard, or unsure how to move forward. I offer a calm and supportive space where you can talk openly and explore what’s really going on for you.
I hold a BA (Hons) Degree in Person-Centred Counselling from the University of Suffolk, where I achieved a 2:1. During my training and continuing practice, I have completed over 400 hours of counselling with clients, developing a deep understanding of the counselling relationship and refining my therapeutic skills.
My background in youth work, emotional well-being, and family support has given me a strong understanding of how life’s experiences shape us. My approach is calm, compassionate, and person-centred, offering a space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions safely, without fear of judgement. I work with empathy, active listening, and cultural sensitivity, always in line with the principles of confidentiality, safeguarding, and respect.
I also have a personal and professional connection to autism, as I am diagnosed autistic. This brings both professional knowledge and lived experience to my work. I understand first-hand how the world can sometimes feel overwhelming, and how important it is to be accepted and supported just as you are. My experience helps me connect deeply with clients who are neurodivergent or who feel different, misunderstood, or unseen.
You might be coming to counselling because you feel:
• overwhelmed or anxious
• stuck or unsure what to do next
• misunderstood or unheard
• affected by past experiences
• in need of a safe space to talk
Counselling offers time just for you — a place to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

My Philosophy
My Philosophy
At The Calm Lantern Counselling, I believe that everyone has the potential to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Together, we focus on your strengths, values, and sense of self-worth to help you move forward in a way that feels right for you.
As a person-centred counsellor, my role is to offer empathy, understanding, and gentle support as you explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My aim is to create a space where you feel truly heard, accepted, and supported.

A Person-Centred Approach
Person-centred counselling is based on the belief that you are the expert on your own life.
In our sessions, you are free to talk about whatever feels important to you. There is no pressure to have the right words or to “fix” things quickly.
My role is to listen carefully, understand your experiences from your perspective, and support you as you explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
Counselling offers a quiet space away from the pressures of everyday life, where you can pause, reflect, and begin to understand what you truly need.

What Makes Me Different?
What Makes The Calm Lantern Counselling Different
What makes The Calm Lantern Counselling different is the calm, personal approach I bring to every session. I offer a safe, understanding space where you can talk freely and feel truly heard.
My work is guided by empathy, authenticity, and respect, never by judgement or pressure.
I have experience supporting people affected by sexual abuse, domestic violence, trauma, and grief. I also work with people experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, life changes, or feeling overwhelmed.
I have a particular understanding of neurodivergence and support clients who are autistic or have ADHD, offering a space where you can feel understood and accepted just as you are.
